Our Advocacy

At VIRB, we believe in the power of education to transform lives, but we know that the traditional schooling system doesn't always work for everyone. That's why we created the VIRB Education Hub - a groundbreaking program designed to reignite the spark of learning in students who have become disengaged, disheartened, or left behind by conventional education. Our Hub is more than just a classroom; it's a safe haven where young people can rediscover their potential, rebuild their confidence, and redefine their future.

Our program goes beyond the basics of literacy and numeracy. We focus on the holistic development of each student, integrating social and emotional learning with practical life skills to prepare them not just for exams, but for life. Here, students are supported by a dedicated team of mentors who are made up of both staff and volunteers qualified as Youth Workers, Social Workers, and educators. We work in conjunction with the Charters Towers School of Distance Education and their wonderful staff, providing students with direct access to support teachers and other services. While academic achievement is important, we have found that by focusing on students' social and emotional health and their ability to exist within a group culture, there is a positive flow-on effect on their school attendance, work submission, and assessment results. This holistic approach is key to their overall success.

Over the course of our journey, we have been visited by state government officials, both elected and unelected, as well as representatives from the Department of Education. They have been incredibly supportive, encouraging, and appreciative of the work we are doing. These officials have highlighted the necessity of our organisation within the community and have recognised the critical role we play in addressing the needs of disengaged youth. While we have yet to secure funding, we are optimistic about the future and are committed to building collaborative relationships that will benefit our students and the wider community.

However, the future of this program is at risk if we do not secure additional financial support. While we have invested over $150,000 of our own business profits and external investments to ensure that families get the support they need, continuing this level of investment without external assistance is unsustainable. Our goal is to keep providing this essential service to the youth in our community, and with your help, we can expand our capacity to reach even more students in need. We are seeking partners who believe in the future of our young people as much as we do. Your support will help us sustain and grow the VIRB Education Hub, ensuring that no student is left behind.

We are proud to share that our Hub has been nominated as a finalist in the prestigious 'Fisher Community Awards, a testament to the impact we've made and the importance of the work we are doing. Join us in making a lasting impact-together, we can change lives.

Every child deserves a chance to succeed, to feel valued, and to be given the tools to carve out a future filled with promise. At VIRB, we see the potential in every student who walks through our doors, and with your help, we can ensure that potential is realised. Imagine the difference we can make, not just in one life, but in the lives of countless young people who simply need someone to believe in them. This is more than just an investment in education; it's an investment in the future of our community, our state, and our nation. Let's build something extraordinary together-something that will stand as a beacon of hope for generations to come.
